The HG Wells Project. Mixed Media, Public Intervention, Regina Sk 2012.
"Cycle tracks will abound in Utopia." - H.G. Wells
The HG Wells Project is a public intervention in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
This project was an exploration of a concept argued by artist, Judith Baca, in Mapping the Terrain: “Why
is it not possible for public art to do more than ‘imitate’ life? Public art could be inseparable from the daily
life of the people for which it was created.” This piece was conceived from a need I saw in the community.
The bike/walking path from Broad Street to the university had many dangerous bumps and holes, making an otherwise
beautiful ride less pleasant; to improve the daily life of those in the community, I patched the holes and cracks
with swatches wide enough for a stroller. It is my belief that artworks that are designed to improve aspects of
life in the community might actually start a positive ripple effect in other areas of people’s lives, a belief that
I think merits additional future research on my part.

despair for the future of the human race." - H.G. Wells
